Chimie physique

We are a young research group in the Physical Chemistry Department, whose aim is to understand and control excited state reactions using advanced spectroscopic methods which can look into ultrafast chemical reactions (in timescales of 10-15 s).

Towards controlling excited-state reactivity

We design and synthesise our own molecules, to precisely control their properties and function, and aim to understand the inner workings of what they do upon absorption of light. Our main interest is in the study of proton transfer, electron transfer, and proton-coupled electron transfer reactions. These play a central role in processes like photosynthesis and in many catalytic transformations.

By leveraging this understanding, we aim to optimise the catalysts and photochemical conversion pathways towards greener and more sustainable fuels which are made using sunlight.

Our offer for apprenticeship will include organic and inorganic synthesis, spectroscopy and advanced characterisation methods. Modelling and other tools will be available in addition.
