Chimie bioinorganique et bioelectrochimie
The Milton group performs research in the domain of bioinorganic chemistry. Specifically, we are interested in metal-containing enzymes that can be utilized in new biotechnologies for improved environmental sustainability. We study complex metalloenzymes that transfer electrons to carry out reactions such as (i) nitrogen reduction to ammonia (for agricultural and chemical industries), (ii) proton reduction to hydrogen (a promising fuel) and (iii) carbon dioxide reduction (to convert CO2 to fuels). In order to study mechanisms, we employ electrodes to artificially supply electrons to metalloenzymes.
